Transylvania in a few days

Transylvania rewards a slow pace, but you can see the essentials in three to five days if you pick one base and keep the drives short.

Where to base yourself

Brașov is the practical choice: a beautiful old town, plenty of restaurants, and every major sight within an hour's drive. Râșnov, twenty minutes away, is quieter and often cheaper, with its own hilltop citadel.

The essentials

With kids

The Libearty bear sanctuary at Zărnești is the standout: rescued bears in forest enclosures, morning guided tours only, book ahead. Dino Parc Râșnov and the cable car up to the Bucegi plateau are easy wins too.

Driving notes

Roads between the main towns are good and distances are short, but summer weekends clog the Bran valley and the mountain passes. Start before 9am and the whole region feels different.
