Transylvania with kids: 5 days
This itinerary is built around short days and guaranteed wins: a fairy-tale castle, rescued bears, life-size dinosaurs and a medieval old town with ice cream on every corner. Base yourself in Brașov and nothing on this list is more than an hour away.
Day 1: Sinaia
Peleș Castle is the castle kids think all castles should be: turrets, armor, secret doors. Go at opening time; guided tours only, tickets sell out in summer. Sinaia Monastery is five minutes away, calm and quick, a good cool-down after the castle crowds.
Day 2: Bușteni
Cantacuzino Castle sits above Bușteni with a wide terrace facing the Bucegi ridge. The grounds are the attraction: lawns to run on, a fountain, and a mountain panorama that keeps the adults busy while the kids roam.
Day 3: Bears and a fortress
Libearty Bear Sanctuary at Zărnești is the highlight of the whole trip for most kids: over 100 rescued brown bears in forest enclosures, seen from raised walkways. Morning guided tours only, book ahead. In the afternoon, Râșnov Citadel is a real hilltop fortress with walls to walk and a valley view, fifteen minutes up the road.
Day 4: Dinosaurs
Dino Parc Râșnov is an open-air park with full-size dinosaurs along a forest trail, plus playgrounds and a zip line. It fills a full day easily, and it is next door to the citadel if anyone wants a second look.
Day 5: Brașov old town
The Black Church impresses even small visitors with its sheer size, and Council Square outside it is made for a slow last afternoon: pigeons to chase, gelato, and the view of the Tâmpa sign above the rooftops.
